Hire your motorhome in Australia from AUD 53/day
A family-owned rental company spanning simple high-roof campervans and larger motorhomes.

Background
Autosleepers is an Australian family-owned rental business established in 1997, with its head office in Sydney. It rents vehicles directly and also offers occasional relocation rentals, where a vehicle needs to move between locations on set dates.
Its business combines compact campervan hire with larger bathroom-equipped motorhomes. Direct bookings follow a request-and-confirmation process: Autosleepers checks availability, takes a reservation payment and sends confirmation by email.
Our verdict
Autosleepers offers a useful progression from compact living space to a motorhome with its own bathroom. The proposition is strongest when the vehicle and itinerary are settled well before departure: there is room to choose the level of comfort, but less room to change the trip casually. Its rental rules and the recent customer-experience signal warrant more weight in the decision than the appeal of the vehicle alone.

The range spans high-roof campervans and bathroom-equipped motorhomes, with substantial differences in length and living space. The manual HiTops are five metres long and have a double bed; the three-berth version adds an upper single. They provide a compact starting point for choosing the amount of sleeping space required.
The automatic Endeavour and KEA Navigator both have two double beds. The Navigator uses a longer Toyota HiAce body, measuring 5.55 metres, and has 1.98 metres of internal height. Bed dimensions are also worth comparing: the Endeavour's doubles measure 1.85 × 1.5 metres and 1.95 × 1.3 metres, while the Navigator's measure 1.85 × 1.24 metres and 2 × 1.2 metres.
Moving up to the seven-metre KEA Nomad adds a bathroom and a 110-litre fridge/freezer. Its extra sleeping place is for a child rather than a third adult. The KEA River is an overcab motorhome with three double beds, an awning and two child-seat anchor points. Although it has solar equipment, its rear roof air-conditioning and hot water require a 240 V connection, which matters when choosing where to stay.

Before booking
These conditions concern Autosleepers’ direct rentals in Australia.
| Topic | What to know |
|---|---|
| Rental duration | Ordinary rentals have a ten-day minimum, though Autosleepers may accept shorter gaps. Both collection and return dates count as rental days. Separate hires no more than one calendar month apart may be combined for duration pricing. |
| Reservation payment | For direct bookings, a 25% payment toward the hire price follows acceptance of the request. This is separate from the damage bond. |
| Included Standard protection | For ordinary direct hire, Standard protection has no additional daily charge. The campervan/HiTop tier lists a bond of AUD 2,750 and an excess of AUD 2,750; the motorhome tier lists AUD 3,300 for each. Exclusions apply, so these figures are not an unconditional limit on financial responsibility. |
| Optional protection | Reduction Option 1 costs AUD 22 per rental day: the campervan bond and excess are AUD 1,250 each, and the motorhome bond and excess AUD 1,650 each. The Ultimate Package costs AUD 33 per rental day and lists a bond and excess of AUD 330 each. These are protection charges, separate from the rental price; exclusions still apply. |
| Bond return | The ordinary rental bond is due before collection. Its return is conditional on settled charges, the vehicle's return condition and the absence of relevant damage or loss. For credit-card refunds, the stated return period is within ten working days after the hire; claims can delay it. |
| Damage exclusions | Cover operates per accident or theft claim. Exclusions include major breaches of the agreement, overhead and underbody damage, water immersion, accessories and personal property. |
| One-way rentals | An agreed one-way hire carries a minimum AUD 220 route charge, included in the final price. Changing the return location requires approval; returning to a different depot without authorisation attracts AUD 1,500 plus the daily rate for delay days. |
| Driver eligibility | Ordinary hire requires an authorised driver aged 21–85 with at least 12 months of driving experience and a valid, unrestricted licence for the vehicle class. A non-English licence requires an International Driving Permit or an approved English translation. Learner, provisional and probationary licences are excluded, as are drivers whose licence was suspended or cancelled in the previous three years. |
| Permitted travel | Travel in Western Australia and the Northern Territory is prohibited. Off-road driving is prohibited; the limited unsealed-road exception covers maintained access of less than 500 metres to recognised campgrounds or tourist attractions. Offshore islands require advance written agreement, and snow, flood and closed-road restrictions also apply. |
| Collection and return | Weekdays: 10:00–15:00. Saturdays: 09:00–11:00. Closed Sundays and public holidays. Collection times are coordinated; after-hours or unattended collection requires a prior written arrangement. Transfers are excluded. |
| Cancellation | Ordinary hire cancellation charges are AUD 200 at least 30 days before pickup, 50% of the full hire charge at 7–29 days, 75% at 1–6 days and 100% on pickup day or for a no-show. Reservation payments up to AUD 200 are non-refundable. Cancellation requires acknowledgement from Autosleepers; unused days after an early return are not refunded. |
| Included equipment and extras | Basic sleeping and kitchen equipment is included. Outdoor furniture, child seats and additional equipment may cost extra unless included in the selected package. Extra bedding kits cost AUD 25 each for the HiTop 2, HiTop 3 and Endeavour. Extras must be arranged in advance. |
| Pets | Pets need specific written approval; assistance animals are excepted. |
| Smoking and naked flames | Smoking, candles and mosquito coils are prohibited inside the vehicle. |
| Fuel return | Return the vehicle with the same fuel level recorded at collection. A shortfall is charged at market price, with an additional service fee below a quarter tank. |
| Gas bottles | LPG refills are available for AUD 25 per bottle at Cairns, Sydney and Melbourne; bottles need not be supplied full and may be returned empty. |
| Cleaning | Failure to return the vehicle in its original clean condition, allowing for wear and tear, can incur AUD 150 for interior cleaning and AUD 75 for exterior cleaning. |
| Toilet waste | An unemptied or unclean toilet can attract an AUD 150 charge at the depot's discretion. |
| Roadside support | A head-office helpline operates seven days a week, with 24/7 roadside assistance for qualifying breakdowns. Problems must be reported promptly and repairs or towing require prior authority. Accidents and customer-liable breakdowns are excluded from that assistance provision. |
| Relocation hire | Relocations have fixed routes, vehicles and days. Their separate Standard protection uses an AUD 2,000 card pre-authorisation and lists AUD 2,000 liability. Linen is charged separately and cancellation costs AUD 100. A relocation may change, be cancelled or end following a breakdown. |
Quick answers
No. Autosleepers prohibits travel in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Its Australian rental operation should not be read as permission for a cross-country route through those areas.
Autosleepers offers agreed one-way rentals and has pickup locations in all three cities. The particular route needs approval and availability, and a one-way charge of at least AUD 220 is included in the final price. A vehicle cannot simply be left at another depot without authorisation.
The KEA Nomad 2+1 Berth and KEA River 6 Berth both have a toilet and an indoor shower. The Nomad sleeps two adults and a child; the River sleeps six adults.
No. The category's sleeping arrangement is for two adults and one child. The third sleeping place should not be treated as an unrestricted adult berth.
No. The package costs AUD 33 per rental day and lists an AUD 330 bond and AUD 330 excess, but contractual exclusions remain. Overhead or underbody damage, for example, is excluded; the reduced excess is not a blanket cap on every possible loss.
Sunday is outside the normal collection schedule. Any after-hours or unattended collection needs a prior written arrangement, so it should not be assumed from a requested pickup date.
Only with specific written approval from Autosleepers. Assistance animals are excepted from that pet-approval requirement.
No. Autosleepers first checks availability, then takes a 25% reservation payment and sends confirmation by email. Submitting the request alone does not complete that process.
