Founded in 2013, CampEasy Iceland is a family-run camper rental business operating from Reykjanesbær. It designs and converts its own campers and runs a workshop, combining vehicle preparation and rental operations at a single Icelandic base.
The range spans small two-person vans, larger campers for up to five people and electric camping vehicles. Seven diesel designs are offered in newer and EXP categories, giving the business a range differentiated by vehicle age as well as size and equipment. All rentals start and finish at the same base.

Editorial review
CampEasy offers enough meaningful variation to make choosing a camper worthwhile: a small van for two, a five-person layout and a larger, more equipped 4×4 serve quite different trips. The conversion business gives the range a coherent camping setup, while the age categories add another useful choice within familiar layouts.
The proposition needs closer attention when the trip depends on difficult-road access or flexible cancellation. The most capable vehicle and the most expensive protection package still leave important restrictions and financial exposure. CampEasy is therefore strongest as a carefully matched rental: choose the vehicle, permitted roads and contract together, rather than treating a 4×4 badge or package name as the answer.
Good points
- A choice of age within the same design..The seven NEW/EXP pairs retain the core seating and sleeping layout, so accepting an older camper does not automatically mean moving to a different size or transmission.
- Useful separation between arrival time and key access..Pre-arranged self-service collection can accommodate flights outside staffed hours, with the check-in and key arrangements completed ahead of arrival.
- Positive handover feedback in the sampled reviews..Helpful explanations, prepared campers and straightforward collection recur in the 20 Trustpilot page-one reviews examined from April–August 2026. This is a limited, non-random sample; additional reviews include equipment and service complaints, so it does not establish a company-wide service rate.
Things to consider
- River exposure remains substantial under Zero Risk..Its ISK 700,000 excess for eligible river damage makes this a significant financial decision even with the highest protection tier.
- A refundable rate can still tie up money..The contract allows a cash-refund processing delay of up to two years in the specified pandemic-lockdown or volcanic-eruption circumstances.
- Five berths do not settle child-seat suitability..The Big and Viking rear two-point belts cannot take the required child restraints, and Monster excludes child seats altogether. Families need to match the restraint and seating position to the camper before choosing a category.

The fleet ranges from compact sleeping vans to larger diesel campers with more living equipment, alongside two electric camping categories.
Size, sleeping space and vehicle age
Small and Ranger use the compact VW Caddy Maxi format. Their two-person bed is 195 cm long, 115 cm wide around the torso and narrows to 97 cm at the feet. Fun, Auto and Clever move to the Transporter format, with a wider bed and three travel seats and sleeping places. Fun is manual; Auto and Clever are automatic.
Big and Viking carry and sleep five, using two sleeping levels. Their upper beds have limited headroom: 50 cm in Big and 45 cm in Viking. Luxury and Monster instead use a larger body for three people, with a built-in kitchen, two fridges and a 3,000 W inverter. Monster reaches almost seven metres in length and uses 35-inch tyres; it is a substantially larger vehicle to handle than the compact vans.
NEW categories cover approximately the first three years of vehicle age; EXP categories are roughly three to six years old and can show visible wear. The pairs are Small, Fun, Auto, Big, Ranger, Clever and Viking. Specific features can differ between paired categories, and the rental terms allow substitution with a similar or higher category if the reserved type is unavailable.
Diesel or electric camping
The diesel campers list insulated living areas, Webasto night heating and running-water kitchens with a 16-litre tank. Heating uses both fuel and electrical power. Bedding is included for the booked occupants, and additional free items such as duvets or cooking equipment can be selected during booking.
Both Tesla categories sleep two and come with bedding, a stove, gas and cookware, rather than a built-in running-water kitchen. Camper Y 4×4 adds a listed 14-litre fridge. Camp Mode uses the driving battery overnight; CampEasy estimates roughly 10% per night, with temperature and electrical supply affecting consumption.
Four-wheel drive and road classification
The diesel 4×4 range includes Ranger, Clever, Viking, Luxury and Monster, with EXP versions of the first three. It offers several sizes for permitted F-road travel, subject to the rental restrictions below. The two Teslas need particular attention: Camper Y 4×4 is classified for F-roads, while Camping Y is not, despite having all-wheel drive. Neither Tesla may cross rivers.

Can I collect a CampEasy camper after a late flight?
Yes, through pre-arranged KeyCafe self-service, subject to the holiday pickup closures. Complete the required online check-in at least 24 hours before collection and follow the key instructions. The airport shuttle ends at 15:45, so late collection normally means paying for a taxi to the Reykjanesbær base; it does not include an overnight staffed handover.
Can both CampEasy Tesla categories use F-roads?
No. Tesla Camper Y 4×4 is classified for permitted F-roads, while Tesla Camping Y is not. Both have all-wheel drive, but that does not give them the same rental permissions. Neither may cross rivers, and CampEasy’s prohibited-road list applies to both.
Does Zero Risk remove all liability with CampEasy?
No. It removes the excess for specified covered damage, but eligible river damage still carries an ISK 700,000 excess. River cover applies only to the eight named diesel 4×4 categories with qualifying protection. Excluded uses, including closed-road driving and negligence, remain outside the package’s protection.
What is the difference between NEW and EXP campers?
NEW covers approximately zero to three years of vehicle age; EXP covers roughly three to six years and allows for visible wear. Seven diesel designs have both versions. The core seating and sleeping layout follows the design, but an equipment feature listed for NEW should not be assumed to come with its EXP counterpart.
Which CampEasy campers are automatic?
Auto, Big, Clever and Viking, including their EXP versions, are automatic, as are Luxury, Monster and both Teslas. Small, Fun and Ranger, including their EXP versions, are manual.
Can a family with child seats book Big, Viking or Monster?
Big and Viking require an individual check of the child restraint and front seating position: their rear two-point belts are unsuitable, even though the campers have five travel seats. CampEasy has no ISOFIX. Monster expressly excludes child seats because the passenger airbag cannot be switched off.
Is CampEasy’s Easy Guide tablet the same as included Wi-Fi?
No. The included tablet provides navigation, vehicle information and contact functions. Wi-Fi for personal devices is a separate service, priced at ISK 990 per day on direct rentals, except in Luxury and Monster where it is included.
Can I cancel a discounted CampEasy booking for a refund?
The rate selected controls the answer. A Non-Refundable booking is not refundable after purchase. A Fully Refundable rate permits cancellation without charge at least 24 hours before pickup, followed by an email refund request. The contract’s exceptional pandemic-lockdown and volcanic-eruption clause can delay refund processing for up to two years.
