Based in the Nelson area, the business takes direct rental enquiries and also offers vehicles through booking channels. Discover NZ gives a relatively focused rental range several distinct uses. A small camper for two, a taller van with an indoor shower and larger motorhomes with distinct sleeping layouts make the choice about how much living space the trip needs. The offer is strongest when the vehicle and handover arrangements are settled together, with essential seating and layout requirements made explicit before booking.
Attentive preparation and communication are a particular appeal. In Nelson/Hope Google reviews from the months leading up to September 2026, customers repeatedly describe patient explanations, clean vehicles and help with coordination. The main trade-off is the amount of advance agreement needed for a precise fit: a category name alone cannot settle a family's seating needs, and a convenient meeting point still has to work with the company's hours and route conditions.
Good points
- A permanent main bed is an actual choice.The 4 Berth Deluxe has a rear island bed, giving travellers who want to leave their main bed made up an alternative to the convertible rear lounge in the 6 Berth Deluxe.
- Distance costs are easier to separate.Unlimited kilometres and diesel road-user charges are included in the standard motorhome rental. Fuel remains a separate expense, so a longer permitted journey does not also create a standard kilometre charge.
Things to consider
- Ski access needs another transport plan.The rental terms exclude all New Zealand skifield access roads. Hiring snow chains does not lift that restriction, so these vehicles cannot be used to drive the final access road to a ski area under those terms.
- Weekend flights need careful timing.The normal office schedule ends at 16:00 on Saturday and excludes Sunday. An arrival outside the standard hours needs a prior arrangement and may carry a charge; a transfer service is not an assurance of round-the-clock collection.

The fleet spans small sleeping vehicles, high-roof campervans and larger motorhomes with an overcab bed. Choosing within it starts with the space needed inside, then the sleeping layout and the facilities that will be used each day.
The Sleepavanz is about five metres long, with a 1.30-metre interior height and a double bed measuring 1.40 × 1.70 metres. Those dimensions matter particularly for taller travellers. It has a fixed toilet and cold water, but no shower or separate bathroom. Its 2025 camper conversion should not be confused with the age of its Toyota chassis.
The six-metre Deluxe S/T adds standing room, an indoor hot shower, diesel heating and an awning. It is a substantial step up in living facilities without moving to the roughly seven-metre Auto-Trail motorhomes. Among those larger vehicles, the 4 Berth Deluxe uses an island-bed layout; the 6 Berth Deluxe has a rear U-shaped lounge that converts for sleeping. The latter's sleeping capacity is expressed as four adults and two children, rather than six adults.
Names need particular attention across booking channels. The two-person Sleepavanz is a small camper; the four- and six-person Sleepervanz categories are overcab motorhomes. The channel's six-person version belongs to an older, refurbished generation and should not be treated as the same vehicle as the newer 6 Berth Deluxe. Discover NZ may substitute a similar or superior vehicle in unforeseen circumstances, so a required bed layout or child-seat arrangement needs to form part of the booking agreement.
