GoCheap Campervans is the budget-focused rental brand of Cruisin Motorhomes Pty Ltd, an Australian family business with roots in Tasmania. The operator began renting motorhomes in 1999 and subsequently developed a network across the mainland as well as Hobart.
GoCheap and Cruisin have separate rental ranges. Some vehicles move into GoCheap after four or more years in the Cruisin range, before eventually passing into the operator's vehicle-sales business. This gives GoCheap a different place in the vehicle lifecycle; the two brands do not offer the same categories, and buying an ex-rental vehicle is separate from hiring one.

GoCheap offers a practical way into campervan travel, with a manageable range and enough equipment to start a trip without assembling a separate living kit. Its appeal depends on matching expectations to the vehicle's stage of life: an older rental can still provide a comfortable holiday, but the condition of furniture and onboard equipment matters as much as the number of berths.
The daily rental price also needs to be considered alongside protection and the money required at pickup. Paying for reduced liability changes that balance substantially. GoCheap is worth comparing on the complete rental arrangement rather than assuming its budget positioning will produce the lowest total for every trip.

The GoCheap range combines compact high-roof campervans with larger motorhomes that have a toilet and shower onboard.
The two Hi Tops are both approximately 4.9 meters long. Their main difference is the sleeping arrangement: the two-berth model uses a convertible dining area, while the four-berth adds an upper double bed. GoCheap positions the latter for two adults and two children. Neither has a toilet, shower or hot water, so access to campsite facilities is central to using these vehicles comfortably.
For two people who want a permanent bed and onboard bathroom, the Tamar changes the experience considerably. Its rear double bed stays made up, and the interior connects the cab with the living area. At approximately 6.2 meters, it also avoids the length of the larger family motorhomes.
The Henty and Derwent are both approximately 7.2–7.4 meters long. The Henty combines an overcab double with a convertible lounge; the Derwent adds a third double by using both the rear lounge and front dining area as beds. Six berths therefore mean three shared doubles, with two areas converted at night. Both larger categories add more kitchen capacity and an awning.
Power needs also separate the range. The Hi Tops have no fixed living-area heating or air conditioning. The Tamar, Henty and Derwent have living-area climate control that requires an external 240 V connection, as do the microwaves and mains outlets throughout the range. Solar panels on the three motorhome categories help charge the auxiliary system; they do not run the mains appliances independently. GoCheap recommends a powered campsite every night or at least every second night.
The Tamar, Henty and Derwent are described as four to seven years old, while the Hi Top categories include vehicles from model year 2017 onward. A reservation is for a category, so the exact vehicle, layout and model year are not guaranteed.

The ordinary-rental examples below use GoCheap's direct/operator conditions for the 1 April 2026–31 March 2027 terms period where applicable. A booking through another sales channel can have different payment and cancellation conditions. Relocation has a separate set of rules.

Relocation rentals
GoCheap's relocation offers move a vehicle along a specified route within a limited time. They use a different cost and responsibility structure from an ordinary one-way rental, so flexibility over dates and direction is essential.
For example, the relocation schedule allows up to three days and 1,020 km between Sydney and Melbourne. That is a maximum time allowance for the relocation product, whereas the ordinary one-way rental on the same pair requires at least ten days. An individual relocation offer determines the actual direction, dates and available vehicle.
The driving curfew and staffed-return deadline further reduce the time available for stops. A short advertised relocation window therefore needs to work with the actual driving distance, rather than simply matching the number of holiday days available. Fuel or ferry credits apply only when the specific offer includes them and its receipt requirements are met; other fuel and ferry costs remain part of the trip budget.

Is GoCheap the same rental brand as Cruisin?
They share Cruisin Motorhomes Pty Ltd as their operator, but have separate vehicle ranges. GoCheap uses older vehicles, including some that previously rented under Cruisin. A Cruisin category or review score should not be taken as a description of the GoCheap vehicle you are booking.
Which GoCheap vehicles have a toilet and shower?
The Tamar, Henty and Derwent have both onboard. Neither Hi Top has a toilet, shower or hot water. The Tamar is the two-person option if a bathroom and a permanent rear bed are priorities.
Can children travel in a two-berth GoCheap vehicle?
The 2 Berth Hi Top and Tamar have no compatible child-seat positions. For children who need a seat or booster, the 4 Berth Hi Top, Henty and Derwent support up to two compatible restraints in approved positions. Sleeping capacity alone does not establish suitability for a child seat.
Are GoCheap's Hi Tops automatic?
Yes. Both current Hi Top categories have automatic transmission, as do the Tamar, Henty and Derwent.
Does the Derwent have six separate beds?
No. It sleeps six in three double beds: one above the cab, one made from the rear lounge and one from the front dining area. Two seating areas therefore need converting for the night.
How much money does GoCheap take as a bond?
For an ordinary rental on the operator's Standard option, GoCheap charges AUD 3,000 for a Hi Top or AUD 5,000 for a Tamar, Henty or Derwent to a physical credit card. This is a refundable bond subject to the return conditions, separate from damage responsibility. Paid liability-reduction options are offered without that bond; relocation instead has its own AUD 1,000 bond.
Can I drive a GoCheap rental one way to or from Perth?
An ordinary one-way rental between Perth and any of the other five bases has a twenty-one-day minimum in the 2026/27 schedule and an AUD 165 one-way charge. It needs approval and availability for your route and vehicle. A relocation offer on a similar route has different time, mileage and payment rules.
Can I leave a GoCheap vehicle at the depot on Sunday?
An unattended return may be arranged ahead of time for an ordinary rental when the office is closed, between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm. The arrangement must be confirmed for your booking. It does not permit a Sunday pickup or replace relocation handover requirements.
