The range divides into 4WD camping vehicles, enclosed on-road accommodation and a separate SUV for travellers staying in accommodation along the way.
The two Wanderer models use powered roofs and enclosed canopies with space to sit inside, but retain outdoor kitchens. The Luxe has induction cooking, while the Outback uses gas. Both have an 80-litre fridge and 80 litres of water storage. This is the middle ground in the range: a sheltered living space without switching to the on-road vehicles.
The rooftop campers put more of camp life outside. Their 40-litre fridges and 80-litre water storage suit that arrangement, and the five-person version separates sleeping across two tents. Both rooftop categories carry three spare tyres, compared with two on the Wanderers.
For road touring, the Cruiser pairs a Toyota Hiace with an induction cooker, microwave and 150-litre fridge. The Frontier provides a more self-contained living setup, with hot water, larger fresh- and grey-water tanks and a 190-litre fridge. Its roof-mounted Starlink includes unlimited data. The difference also matters when stopping away from a powered site: the Cruiser’s living-area air conditioning needs external power, while the Frontier’s does not.

Which RedSands campers have an indoor toilet and shower?
The Frontier has both an internal Clesana toilet and a shower cubicle. The Wanderer Luxe instead includes a portable toilet with a privacy tent and an outdoor camp shower. The other 4WD campers have outdoor showers but no toilet as standard; the Cruiser has neither as standard.
Can five people travel and sleep in the same RedSands camper?
The 5 Person 4WD Rooftop Camper has five travel seats and two rooftop tents with a combined stated capacity of up to five people. The tents are arranged for two and three sleepers, so five places should not be read as five adult-sized beds. The Prado also has five seats, but no sleeping accommodation.
Can I take a RedSands 4WD on the Gibb River Road?
Yes, the Gibb River Road is within the formed-track permissions for RedSands 4WDs, subject to weather, vehicle suitability and the rental restrictions. The unsealed-road speed limit is 80 km/h, and water crossings must not exceed 0.4 metres. Permission for the Gibb does not extend to excluded routes such as the Canning Stock Route or Old Telegraph Track.
Does Wander Far remove the bond and all damage liability?
It replaces the standard bond with an AUD 500 credit-card authorisation and reduces the excess to AUD 500 per covered claim. The package itself costs extra, exclusions remain, and a qualifying claim ends cover. It must then be repurchased within 48 hours or the required bond provided.
Can I collect a RedSands camper in Perth and return it in another city?
One-way rentals are part of the offer, with no advertised one-way fee. The current depot cities are Perth, Broome, Darwin and Adelaide. The particular vehicle, direction and dates still need to be accepted as part of the booking.
Is the Brisbane depot open?
RedSands has announced Brisbane collection and return from 1 July 2027. It is a planned addition, separate from the four currently operating depot cities.
Will the Cruiser’s air conditioning work away from external power?
Its living-area air conditioning requires external power. The Frontier’s does not, which is a meaningful difference when choosing between the two on-road camping vehicles.
Does RedSands reduce the daily rate for a long rental?
Yes. Vehicle hire attracts an 8% reduction for 35–59 days, 12% for 60–99 days and 15% from 100 days. Both pickup and return dates count as rental days, and the discount applies to the daily vehicle charge rather than automatically reducing all extras and fees.
