The practical trade-off is a more independent handover: renters take on the task of getting familiar with the van through the guides, with help available remotely. That makes the quality of the instructions and the response when something goes wrong central to the rental experience.

The fleet offers two distinct layouts: a three-person diesel campervan and a petrol HiAce range with two double beds. All four categories have a two-burner cooker, fridge, cooking and dining equipment, bedding and a solar-supported house battery.
The Outrider puts all three travel seats in the cab. At the back, a fixed double bed measures 1.95 × 1.40 metres, while the dinette makes a shorter single bed of 1.70 × 0.80 metres. That single-bed length matters when choosing sleeping places for three adults. A rear equipment garage and 80-litre fresh- and grey-water tanks distinguish this layout from the Explorer range. Its indoor shower offers privacy, but there is no hot-water system.
The Explorer Neo, Explorer and Explorer Saver share an upper double bed and a dinette double, each measuring 1.80 × 1.30 metres. Their common layout makes the age of the van and its conversion more useful distinctions than the number of seats or berths. The Neo uses 2025-or-newer vans, the Explorer uses 2018–2019 vans, and the Explorer Saver's interior conversion dates to 2018.
Heating also changes the choice. The Outrider's diesel heater uses fuel and the house battery. The Explorer range's portable living-area heater needs campground mains power; cab air conditioning runs with the engine. Exact vehicle registration is normally assigned within the final 24 hours before collection.

No. Its indoor shower supplies cold water and sits in a separate room with the fixed flush toilet. There is no hot-water system. The Explorer categories instead have outdoor showers.
Can six people sleep in an Explorer?
No. The six-seat Explorer categories have two double beds for four adults, with provision for one child sharing that sleeping space. There are not six berths. A family's child-restraint requirements also need product-specific confirmation; the travel-seat count alone does not establish a suitable installation.
Are unlimited kilometres included with the Outrider?
Yes, but its diesel road user charge is separate. Waka Campa charges NZD 82 per 1,000 km, collecting an advance based on 200 km per day and reconciling the amount with actual distance at return. The unlimited allowance does not remove that distance-based charge.
Can I drive from Auckland and return the campervan in Queenstown?
