Algarve is a popular region for holiday goers. It’s one of the best locations in Portugal for beaches. While you want to add a beach to your list of things do to, there’s so much more to see. Here are 10 things to do in Algarve to make your holiday complete.

1 - Ponta da Piedade

Start with a trip to the beautiful cliffs of Ponta da Piedade. There is a walk involved, but you’ll see sights you’ll only otherwise dream off. There are about 200 steps that lead right down to the bottom of the cliffs, but you can also take in much of the experience from the top!

2 - Zoomarine

Think you’ve seen it all with Disney and Alton Towers? Well, you’re mistaken. Zoomarine is one of the places you have to visit. It’s more than just a theme park, offering shows throughout the day. Think about the time of year you visit. This is best in the summer when the weather is at its warmest.

3 - Benagil Caves

Explore the romantic area of Benagil Caves. It’s an exotic beach that you can take a boat to for further exploration. The beach has 30 or so caves that you want to see.

4 - The Dolphin Watch Cruise

If booking your own private boat isn’t something you want to do, take the Dolphin Watch Cruise. You’ll also get to explore some of the mystical caves of the area. There are dolphins depending on the time of the year.

5 - Leaozinho Pirate Ship Cruise

There are two tours to take on the Leaozinho pirate ship cruise depending on what you really want to get out of this trip. One of those is the ability to swim off the ship or you could see some dolphins. The half-day cruise is definitely worth the consideration if you have about four hours to spare.

6 - Fort of Cacela

Fort of Cacela is within a quiet village in Algarve, and also at the start of the Ria Formosa. Depending on the time of year you may not be able to enter the old fort, so you’ll want to check before you get there.

7 - Old Town Faro

When you want a small town with cobbled streets and a world of history, Old Town Faro is one of the things to do in Algarve. Make sure you visit on a day that isn’t Sunday, as all the shops shut on the Sabbath. There is a cathedral to enter and you’ll be amazed at the views from the top.

8 - Vila Real de Santo Antonio

On the border to Spain, this village is full of tourist attractions. Make sure you add the Arquivo Historico Municipal and the Praca Marques de Pombal to your list of things to see while here. Also don’t forget about the 20 minute ferry journey across the River Guadiana.

9 - Castro Marim

Just 10 minutes away from the Vila Real de Santo Antonio is the Castro Marim, a gorgeous 13th century castle. It’s completely open to the public and surrounded by the gorgeous views of the Reserva Natural do Sapal nature park.

10 - Tavira

Shaped by the Romans and the Moors, Tavira is one of the prettiest areas within the Algarve region. There are 21 churches in the area and all buildings has architecture that you will never see anywhere else. Those who love the sun need to visit the Ilha de Tavira, which is perfect for camping.
